If you’re thinking about using Wise for sending money overseas, then read our comprehensive guide first. Let’s start with exploring who Wise is.
Comprehensive Overview of Sending Money Abroad or to Ireland with Wise
Wise (formerly TransferWise) offers an affordable and effective way of transferring money across borders.
Wise was launched in 2011, with a mission to make international money transfers easier, faster, and cheaper.
If transferring smaller amounts, Wise may work out to be a better option than OFX.
With Wise you can send payments overseas, or open a multi-currency account to hold and exchange 50+ currencies
Wise just like any other money transfer company has its benefits and flaws. Those are the main things to look at when deciding whether to use it to transfer your money or choose another provider.
PROS
Very minimal fees compared to banks – Wise is one of the most transparent companies in terms of their exchange rates and transaction fees. In the vast majority of time, the rate they use for money exchange is more favourable than rates offered by regular banks.
Convert and hold 54 currencies – They use the real exchange rate when you convert currencies.
Send money cheaper – You get to know how much the recipient will get before you press the send button.
High Security –Wise is a very secure platform.
40% of transfers are instant, 80% are delivered within 24 hours.
All services are available online or in the Wise app, with multi-lingual support online, in-app and by phone.
Wise Debit Card
Wise has also introduced a new option to get a payment card. It’s a debit card and you can pay with it anywhere in the world. Again, the mid-rate will be used, which is more advantageous than if you pay with a regular card from a regular bank.
